It is said that all the teachings of the Buddha are contained in this mantra: Om Mani Padme Hum can not really be translated into a simple phrase or sentence.  The meaning of the six syllables is great and vast.
 
The first syllable Om, is blessed to help you achieve perfection in the practice of generosity. Om is composed of three letters, A, U, and M. These symbolize the practitioner's body, speech, and mind; they also symbolize the pure exalted body, speech, and mind of a Buddha.
 
Ma helps perfect the practice of pure ethics, and Ni helps achieve perfection in the practice of tolerance and patience. Mani, meaning jewel, symbolizes the factors of method-the altruistic intention to become enlightened, compassion, and love. Just as a jewel is capable of removing poverty, so the altruistic mind of enlightenment is capable of removing the poverty, or difficulties, of cyclic existence and of solitary peace.

Pad, the fourth syllable, helps to achieve perfection of perseverance, Me helps achieve perfection in the practice of concentration. The two syllables, padme, mean lotus & symbolize wisdom.

 
Purity must be achieved by an indivisible unity of method and wisdom, symbolized by the final syllable hum, which indicates indivisibility
 
. The final sixth syllable Hum helps achieve perfection in the practice of wisdom.
 
The mantra helps achieve perfection in the six practices from generosity to wisdom.
